Will you help us? WISE and THRIVE have teamed up this year for the “Walk in Their Shoes” event, much as we work together to assist our older adult refugee clients achieve increased stability in many aspects of their lives. Social isolation, depression, inflation, and life changes like chronic illness and loss have taken a heavy toll on vulnerable older adults and older adults in our community, even more with those who needed to leave their lifelong homes due to war or other awful circumstances. Within WISE Aging Services, our staff is busy providing case management to individuals, including new Americans, 60 years and older who struggle to maintain their independence and dignity, while coping with multiple, complex challenges. Caregivers require support to provide increasing levels of care to spouses or parents—and not lose themselves in the process. THRIVE behavioral health provides counseling to not only older adults but to those aged 18 and older, who need our support. Can you imagine the mental toll of the journey of a refugee.
