A Message From UNWLA Branch 50

Jewish Family Services of Ann Arbor and the UNWLA have similar interests in reassuring the safety and care of refugees during times of trial and war. Our motivations include: Empathy and Solidarity: The League empathizes with the challenges faced by refugees, given our own historical experiences and understanding of displacement. Having gone through similar hardships, the League's members could feel a strong sense of solidarity with the refugees and a desire to alleviate their suffering. Humanitarian Values: The League holds humanitarian values at its core, emphasizing the importance of helping those in need. Participating in a fundraiser for the JFS Refugee Resettlement program aligns with our League's mission to provide support and resources to vulnerable populations, contributing to the well-being of the wider community. Cultural Exchange and Understanding: By supporting the JFS program, the League's branch will engage in a meaningful cultural exchange. This exchange fosters understanding and empathy between different communities, promoting tolerance and unity among diverse groups. Community Building: The fundraiser provides an opportunity for the League to strengthen community bonds. Engaging in a collective effort to raise funds for a noble cause can enhance the sense of community among League members, other organizations, and individuals who share the same values. Long-Term Partnership: Collaborating with the JFS program through fundraising can lead to a long-term partnership. This partnership might involve ongoing support, volunteer opportunities, and shared initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive and supportive community. Educational Opportunities: The fundraiser can also serve as an educational platform. By informing the community about the challenges faced by refugees during resettlement, the League can raise awareness and promote empathy, encouraging a broader understanding of the refugee experience. Promotion of Resettlement Success: The League's involvement in the fundraiser contributes to the success of refugee resettlement. By providing resources such as personal safety, nourishment, and guidance, the League contributes to refugees' ability to thrive in their new community.

Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County is a private non-profit social services agency serving the greater Ann Arbor community since 1993. Originally established by the Jewish Federation of Washtenaw County to assist the growing number of refugee families in Ann Arbor from the former Soviet Republics, JFS has since grown into an organization providing programs and services ranging from older adult caregiving to immigrant resettlement and career services. As an agency in Washtenaw County that serves a diverse, international population, the mission of Jewish Family Services is to create solutions, promote dignity and inspire humanity.
