A Message From Home Away from Home

Greetings, Family, Friends, Colleagues, and Students: As a new board member of Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County (JFS), I have the privilege of co-chairing the following event - 2023 Walk a Mile in My Shoes - on Sunday, September 10, 2023. This third annual event will provide an opportunity for participants/volunteers to pause and consider some of the experiences, including the traumas, losses, fears, and hopes that refugee clients face every day. Funds raised will support all resettlement needs, such as housing, food and nutrition, employment services, and transportation, especially for refugees from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Syria. Also, as a refugee and migration scholar/professor at the University of Michigan, I am currently collaborating with this organization on several research projects to support newly resettled Afghan and Ukrainian humanitarian parolees, as well as Syrian refugee youth and their families. My goal is to raise $5,000, but I cannot do it without your help, so please join me for the actual walk on September 10th and in raising money for an important cause by sponsoring my campaign. Thank you in advance for your support. I appreciate you. See you on September 10th if you're able to attend the walk.

In Support of Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County
Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County is a private non-profit social services agency serving the greater Ann Arbor community since 1993. Originally established by the Jewish Federation of Washtenaw County to assist the growing number of refugee families in Ann Arbor from the former Soviet Republics, JFS has since grown into an organization providing programs and services ranging from older adult caregiving to immigrant resettlement and career services. As an agency in Washtenaw County that serves a diverse, international population, the mission of Jewish Family Services is to create solutions, promote dignity and inspire humanity.
