I’ve experienced what it feels like to not belong—to feel like an outsider in my own country. That perspective has deepened my empathy for refugees who face overwhelming language, financial, and cultural barriers as they begin new lives in our community. At the same time, I believe Ann Arbor is one of the most inclusive and welcoming places in Michigan, and I’m proud to call it home.
