Tragically, over the past three difficult years, foundations and government entities have shifted resources away from funding safety net services for older adults. As a direct result, JFS has lost $750,000 (more than half our budget) in funding for its critical WISE services. Today as we receive more referrals (from healthcare providers and friends) and record numbers of calls from older adults in crisis, we simultaneously navigate this bleak financial reality. We ask ourselves who will invest to uphold the fragile safety net for older adults? How will this system of care be sustained? If we cannot make up this lost income, we will have to limit our programming, with severe consequences to our neighbors. We believe that older adults are the heart of our community, our collective wisdom and experiences embodied. We take pride in caring for them and it is a privilege each time we earn their trust and they invite us into their lives. They need us and we are at the ready. But time is of the essence, and they desperately need your help.
